Professional Education in Russia

Professional education leads to the completion of non university and university diplomas in Russia.

The non-University Education

This is mainly based on vocational training and diplomas for qualified workers, labors, technicians, nurses. The basic diploma takes about 1- 2 years to complete. However , the advanced levels diplomas usually takes 3 years to complete.

The University Education 

University stream in Russia to 10- 15 years of academic, research or professional university education in Russia.

Higher Education in Russia

Higher education is usually the university education. It is divided into graduate and post-graduate levels of study.

Graduate Level

The graduate level in university education is divided as:

  • The Bakalavr Degree  ( 4 years )

It’s a same as 4 years bachelors degree of western education System. However it’s invalid for the Medical sciences.  These courses are mainly based on academic knowledge.

  • The Magistr Degree( 2-4 years )

  • The Specialist Degree  ( 5 years )

Post Graduate Level 

These courses are designed for research scholars in sciences. They are typically known as:

  • Kandidat Nauk Degree  (1st doctoral degree)

It’s like the PhD degree of west. Usually takes 3 - 4 years for completion with research work.

  • Doktor Nauk Degree  (2nd doctoral degree )

This degree requires extensive practical research by the candidate. There is no defined  tenure for this. But it generally takes 10 to 15 years to achieve Doktor Nauk Degree.
